Seat belts are the law of the land. However, despite laws and their ability to save lives, not everyone buckles up for safety.
According to a recent Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration study, nearly 40 percent of unbelted driver fatalities could be prevented with safety belt use.
Here are three reasons why we urge you to buckle up all the time:
· 80% of traffic fatalities occur within 25 miles of home and at less than 40 miles an hour, so buckle up no matter how far you are going.
· In 2008, 64% of the passenger vehicle occupants ages 13-15 and 21-34 killed in traffic crashes were not using restraints. These age groups had the highest percentage out of those measured.
· Ejection from the vehicle is one of the most injurious events that can happen to a person in a crash. In fatal crashes in 2008, 77% of passenger vehicle occupants who were totally ejected from the vehicle were killed.
